What makes the Quran miraculous?

21Mar09

As Muslims, we know that the Qur’an is miraculous but how is the Quran a miracle? What is so miraculous about the Quran?

We know that the Quran can not be imitated, we know that there are verses of challenge, but the question arises, what does it mean to produce something similar to it? Imitate in what? How is the Quran so inimitable?

Scholars have differed about this issue. Various scholars have come up with various ways.

Most scholars have said because of its language. (#1 opinion)

>> the use of words in its proper place
>> the style of it does not conform to any style of poetry (neither prose nor poetry, neither writing nor rhyming)
>> the language and its eloquence

Others say it is because of the effect it has when you listen to it, while yet others say its laws.

The correct opinion is that you can not restrict the miraculous nature of the Quran to a human list. One of its miracles is that it is miraculous in every aspect. So every scholar that writes a list will be criticized because he will leave things out.

With that said, one of the scholars of the Arabic language and a mufassir, Juzay ibn Qalbee (d.741) of Andalus said the Qur’an is miraculous for ten reasons.
