The four best women of the world
From the AlMaghrib forums:
The Messenger of Allaah (sal Allahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) drew four lines on the ground. Then he said, “Do you know what this is?” We said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “The best of the women of paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatimah bint Muhammad, Asiyah bint Mazaahim the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam bint ‘Imran.” – May Allah be pleased with them all. (Reported in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad 2663 and it’s Saheeh)
Why is it that these four women were specifically listed as the best of the paradise? He went on to explain it is because these four women excelled in their roles as loving, supportive, and obedient mothers or wives. None of them were known to be scholars. They were known to be great slaves of Allah, and for their obedience and support of their husbands or the nurturing of the young ones.
It is not to say that Aisha (radi Allahu anha) wasn’t a great woman. She was. She was a giant amongst the women, a scholar amongst the scholars. However, the four best are listed as above and none of them were known to be scholars. So the pleasure of Allah lies foremost in what these four women were able to do.
“Our Master, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” [25:74]
